The Importance of Written Comments
The goal of this project is to create a public engagement process that is equitable, inclusive, and accessible to all. While we welcome all forms of participation, it’s important to recognize that spoken comments at public meetings are not the only — or the primary — way to share input. That’s why we place such a strong emphasis on written comments.
Written input helps ensure that we hear from those who may not be able to attend meetings, who may be less comfortable speaking in public, or who simply prefer to engage in other ways. It allows every voice to be considered equally. It also helps us better understand and reflect the views of everyone by providing clarity and context in their own words.
Standardizing the format and volume of public input is not about silencing voices or hiding perspectives — it’s about creating a level playing field. A fair process must ensure that all comments are weighed equally, alongside the many other perspectives across our large and diverse City.
This work is not about any one neighborhood, business, or resident — it’s about all of Dallas. Our responsibility is to make sure that every voice is heard, respected, and valued, and that no single viewpoint outweighs the collective vision of the entire community.
