Your daily route tells a story about how Dallas is built.
Every day, Dallas residents move between home, work, school, groceries, healthcare and the people and places they rely on. How long those trips take - and which options are available along the way - is shaped partly by where homes, jobs, shops and services can be located.
On August 27, the City of Dallas Planning & Development Department and Dallas College invite residents to Getting Around Dallas, an interactive Zoning 101 experience about the connection between where things are and how we move.
You do not need to know anything about zoning to participate. Bring the routes you know, the places you need and the things you wish were closer.

What to Expect
This is not a lecture or a traditional public meeting. It begins with a simple premise: you already know something about how Dallas moves because you move through it every day.
Residents will map parts of their daily routines, compare experiences and explore what makes some destinations easy to reach and others difficult.
Zoning does not set bus routes or build roads. But it helps shape what can be located where - and that affects the trips people need to make.
At the event, residents will be able to:
Put their daily routes and destinations on a shared Dallas map
Explore how zoning connects homes, jobs, schools, groceries, healthcare and other services
Discuss how distance, walkability and transportation choices can differ across neighborhoods
Talk directly with City staff and local partners
Share what they wish were easier to reach or closer to home
The goal is to make the rules beneath daily life easier to see - and make it easier for Dallas residents to help shape what comes next.
